Any organic matter can be used to produce biogas: feces, manure, fruit, vegetables, slaughterhouse scraps, dairy, brewery and distillery wastes. However, bacteria used in the anaerobic process cannot easily digest fibre-rich matter such as leaves and wood, which is better used to a different process (see the biomass section).
